Sahara Sparks is the Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship event, which promotes Tanzanian technology startups, and early stage companies by providing them with opportunity to be exposed, pitch and exhibit their products and services, to find investors and potential partners. Sahara Sparks is aiming at bridging the gap between young innovators (technology entrepreneurs) and mentors, investors and potential business partners.
Lack of incentives to invest into early stage companies, proper platforms for mentoring early stage entrepreneurs, a launching platform for startups, and a platform to link entrepreneurs to potential investors are among prime challenges facing the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Tanzania and Sahara Sparks is looking to pilot the solution.
Tanzanian startups such as Time Tickets, a digital ticketing platform, Soka a mobile application to cover local football league and Agri-Info a platform for allocating land they have a potential to scale into profiable businesses while producing massive changes on the traditional ways of doing things. The question is, where can they (pitch) launch their products? how can they find potential investors and partners and how can they get proper expert mentoring to scale their businesses?
Sahara Sparks itself is not going to solve all these problems, but it will open the doors for other actors and stakeholders to be involved on the effort to build sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Tanzania.
